12 Films To Feed Your Wanderlust

The Blue Lagoon

Beautiful tan people with great hair and nothing to do but swim around and kiss each other.

Palm trees, and sun tans, and Brooke Shields, oh my! Marooned on the island as children, Emmeline, and Richard both embark on two great adventures equipped with nothing but each other: growing up and falling in love.

How To Marry A Millionaire

Hollywood bombshells in glamorous gowns falling in love with all the wrong people.

Marilyn Monroe, Lauren Bacall, and Betty Grable star as three girlfriends living in New York City and traveling abroad in hopes of landing a man with a bank account sporting seven zeroes. If the plot isn’t enough to hook ya, the wardrobe certainly will.

Little Miss Sunshine

A+ for motivational one-liners, a chill soundtrack, and the best pair of specs we’ve seen since Steven Q Urkel.

Steve Carrell, Abigail Breslin, and Greg Kinnear all light up the screen in this angst-ridden, hijinks-laced comedy about a family’s cross-country quest to get their daughter to the Little Miss Sunshine contest.

An Affair To Remember

Cary Grant. Enough said.

Pink champagne, Italian scenery, and beautiful music- wouldn’t it be enough to make anyone fall in love? Playboy Nickie Ferrante and singer Terry McKay can’t seem to help but swoon when they find themselves on the same cruise ship. The only problem? They’re both engaged to someone else.

Eat, Pray, Love

This movie will make you want to eat a lot of pasta and ride your bike for no apparent reason.

America’s favorite pretty woman Julia Roberts stars as Liz Gilbert, a woman who uproots her life and makes her way through Bali, India, and Italy to find herself. (I might also throw in here that James Franco is in this movie- for all you darlings that are into that.)

Under The Tuscan Sun

Borderline makes you want to get divorced just to find yourself in Italy.

A little heartbreak, a lot of romance, and one absolutely gorgeous Italian villa.  In order to get through a nasty divorce, Diane Lane, who plays a writer from San Francisco, heads off to Italy for the week. But her one-week getaway becomes a life-changing journey when she decides to buy a rundown villa and property in Tuscany.

The Lizzie McGuire Movie

A movie that taught our 12-year-old selves that it was completely safe to jump on the back of an Italian stranger’s motorbike. #WhatDreamsAreMadeOf

Wanderlust + nostalgia = The Lizzie McGuire Movie. When Lizzie joins her class on a  summer trip to Rome, she bumps into a famous Italian singer, is mistaken for his past love interest/singing partner, and is thrown into a world of fashion, fame and sneaking out past her curfew. Bonus: the 2003 wardrobe is freaking awesome.

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants

Kostas’s abs and accent will crush your soul.

This is the tale of 4 best friends, 4 different summer adventures and a magical pair of pants that ties them all together. Based on the best-selling novel by Anne Brashares, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants will hands down give you unrealistic expectations about summer love and finding the perfect pair of jeans.

Into the Wild

If you watch this too many times you will drop out of school to find yourself.

After graduating from a prestigious school with top academic and athletic honors, Christopher donates his saving account to charity and takes off to the Alaskan wilderness. In short- this movie will change your life and make you rethink everything.

Out of Africa

Meryl Streep + Robert Redford, African landscapes and a musical score that’ll make you cry.

This is a classic. Though it may be slow and hard to follow at times (it was released in 1985) this movie put Meryl Streep on the map for a reason.  The movie takes place in colonial Kenya, where a Danish baroness falls in love with a free-spirited game hunter.

  Roman Holiday

The wanderlust movie that created all wanderlust movies.

Why do we love this movie so much? Besides the amazing  wardrobe, beautiful scenery and start studded cast, “Oh hello, Audrey Hepburn!”, we fell in love with the simple plot: A princess sneaks away from her sheltered life and falls for an American journalist in Rome.

Vickie Christina Barcelona

Holy. hot. Don’t watch this with your parents.

When two best friends vacationing in Barcelona for the summer fall for a Spanish painter, they’re surprised to find details about his tumultuous relationship with a past lover. Total guilty pleasure movie. Bonus: the cast is a dream team. Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz and Scarlet Johansson star in this Woody Allen flick.

For good measure: Kate Spade’s anatomy of the perfect popcorn
