9 Easy Ways To Practice Self-Care (With A Packed Schedule)

As college students, we are often working with very busy schedules. Between class, homework, jobs, internships and everything else we have going on, it may feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day. In result, we often neglect ourselves. No matter what you have going on, it is always important to take care of yourself first and foremost. Here are some ways that you can practice self-care even with a busy schedule.

1. Always eat breakfast or snacks throughout the day

With the unavoidable 8 AM classes and morning shifts, we sometimes wake up with just enough time to get ready and head out of the door. Like they say, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Even if it’s just instant oatmeal or some fruit, be sure to eat something in the mornings. Your schedule may be super packed to the point where you can’t stop and eat during the day so be sure to bring some snacks.

2.Try doing a face mask

While you’re doing your homework or studying really hard for an upcoming test, do a face mask! Face masks are so relaxing and not to mention, they do wonders for your skin. They’re so effortless, so why not take care of your skin while you’re hard at work.

3. At-home workouts

Exercising is a great stress reliever since it stimulates chemicals in your brain that will leave you happier and feeling relaxed. Even if you don’t have time to go to the gym, you can do some workouts in the comfort of your own home. You can go to YouTube to find workouts, one of my favorites is Blogilates. You can also download a workout app like Sworkit or Daily Yoga. Not only will you be relieving stress but you will be maintaining your health as well.

4. Take time to pamper yourself

If you have extra money be sure to treat yourself! Whether you get a massage, manicure or anything else that relaxes you. You work hard and you deserve some time to yourself. Don’t forget to treat yourself for all of your work!

5. Journal nightly

It is good to express ourselves. Writing is a great way to practice self-expression and get out any emotions we may be carrying from the day. You can invest in a cute journal or you can just make notes on your phone if you want. Reflect on your day and get all of your thoughts out so you’re not carrying them with you into the next day.

6. Try meditating

Meditation is a great way to relax and unwind. You can try meditating in the morning or at the end of the day. There are guided meditations that are perfect for beginners. You can find some meditation podcasts or try apps (Stop, Breathe and Think is a good one). It will definitely clear your mind.

7. Remind yourself of the positives

Even if you just think to yourself, remember the good things that are in your life. In the midst of the bad times, there is some good or something to be thankful for. You can also leave yourself positive reminders in the form of sticky notes so you can have a physical reminder.

8. Take naps

If you have downtime during the day, take a nap! It is important that you get enough sleep in order to function at your best. In college there are many late nights and early mornings, so take advantage of any opportunity you have to catch up on sleep.

9. Stay hydrated

Staying hydrated is so important. Be sure to drink a lot of water throughout the day so your body doesn’t get dehydrated. Drinking water is also great for your skin too.
