7 Mascara Tricks That Beat False Lashes

Mascara. As girls, we all know that it’s one of the makeup essentials we can’t live without. It’s the finishing bow on the beauty package that is our face.

Unfortunately, most of the flawless celebs that we see on the covers of magazines are sporting false lashes. Ain’t nobody got time for that.

Fortunately, with these seven tips and tricks, you’ll be batting around a full set of voluminous, long, and flawless lashes in no time. They even rival their false counterparts. The best part is, you don’t even have to use all of the tips at one time. Using even one will make a noticeable difference…but if you use the full seven like we do in this tutorial, the before/after comparison is unreal.

Here’s what you’ll need to transform your lashes from dull to DAAMMMNNN GIRL:

equipment

  • Hair Dryer
  • Eyelash Curler
  • Loose Powder
  • Eyeshadow Brush
  • Mascara (….no way?? way.)

1. Heat Your Eyelash Curler

If you choose to do one out of any of these tricks, here’s your pick ladies. It’s a tried and true method, and for good reason. Using your hair dryer on the lowest setting, aim it at your eyelash curler for about 10-15 seconds. Pump it a few times on one eye, reheat it for the other one and pump again, and you’re good to go. The heat helps the curl last all day, and it really lets the mascara do what it’s supposed to do in terms of noticeably defining and lengthening your lashes.

2. Wiggle your wand in a zig-zag motion.

Instead of just brushing the mascara onto your lashes which is most likely not going to get every lash, wiggle the mascara wand back and forth in a zig zag pattern from root to tip. This ensures that every lash gets coated, and also accentuates the curl of the lashes while helping to keep them separated and not clumpy.

3. Wiggle Your Mascara Wand IN, Not Out

By wiggling your wand towards your tear duct as opposed to the outer corner of your eye, you’re pushing your lashes straight up and therefore taking full advantage of their length. This trick is the best for really opening up the eye (hello tired mornings), and is one of the simplest on the list.

4. Apply your mascara near a fan.

Trust us. This sounds too easy, but it makes a world of difference. When applying two coats of mascara, more often than not we tend to not wait for the first coat to fully dry before we start applying the second one. By putting it on near a fan, the eyelashes have a chance to fully dry before the next coat, allowing the mascara layers to build upon each other, thicken, and lengthen.

5. Don’t forget the back side of your lashes.

Would you apply lipstick to only one lip? Of course not. This is why it’s super practical to apply mascara to the backside of your lashes along with the front. It allows each lash to be coated from all angles, therefore allowing for maximum mascara aweseomeness.

6. Apply a loose powder after the first coat.

powder

Have you guys seen those false fiber lashes that come in two tubes? The ones that are like $35? This trick is basically the same exact thing, except using a loose powder that you probably already have. Just take any old eyeshadow brush, tap it in the powder, and brush it on the underside of your lashes. It looks weird, and you may have some fallout below your eye from the powder that doesn’t stick, but you can easily dust that off. Finish with a coat of mascara (again, wiggling from root to tip towards the tear duct works best once the powder is on), and voila!

7. Curl your lashes again (unheated) after both eyes are finished.

Yeah so we know you’re not technically supposed to do this but…a light pump of the eyelash curler on each eye once it’s all said and done never killed anyone. It’s a great finishing touch, and lifts the eyelashes up even more.

Now you have seven new mascara tips to put in your beauty arsenal. Use one or two for a casual look, or use all of them if you want something more dramatic.

Also, be aware of your “mascara face” if applying in public. You know exactly what we’re talking about.
