Have you ever wondered what it would be like to work and live in the “happiest place on earth?” Well, the Disney College Program allows you to do just that while gaining experience that will change your life for the better and making magic for guests from all around the world.
As a Disney College Program student, you have the opportunity to live and work in either Walt Disney World in Florida or Disneyland in California in one of twenty different roles.
Whether you’re cast as a Fairy Godmother in Training at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, greeting guests at the front entrance, or watching them take-off on Space Mountain, we guarantee it will be the coolest job you’ll ever have. We can’t recommend it enough, so here are ten reasons we think you should apply to work in the House of Mouse.
1. You’ll Make Best Friends for Life.
From room-mates to co-workers, you’re bound to hit it off with at least one new BFF. We recommend bonding over your favorite Jonas Brother. That usually does the trick. Though there are thousands of participants, the Disney College program really is a tight knit community. And who knows? You may just end up with a life-long best friend or your future maid of honor, and the memories you make together in Disney Parks are ones you’ll never forget.
2. You’ll Connect With Powerful Mentors
From teachers of the Disney College Program courses to your on-site managers and “College Program Champions,” the mentors you make at Disney Parks will push you to become the best version of yourself. Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and get to know your leaders. Not only will they help you successfully complete your program, but they’ll advocate for your future. And nothing is more fun than surprising a former leader when you visit Disney in years to come.
3. You Have The Opportunity To Network Like There’s No Tomorrow
If Disney knows how to do one thing, it’s throw a killer event, and when it comes to networking, there’s no lack of them. Make sure to take the plunge and attend at least a few during the course of your program. You never know what connection may help lead to your next step within the company.
4. It’s Your First Step Towards A Disney Career
If you even remotely think you may want to work for The Disney Company, the Disney College Program is your foot in the door. Most Disney Professional Internships require that you have completed the DCP first, and a lot of Professional Internships lead to full-time positions. Even if you don’t continue on to a Professional Internship, the mentors you make during your program will be invaluable assets if you ever decide to come back and work at Disney Parks.
5. You’ll Experience Backstage Disney Magic
Have you ever heard of the Utilidors? Walt Disney World does indeed have a miniature city underground below the Magic Kingdom that helps keep the park running and allows Cast Members (employees) to travel from one side of the park to the other without being seen. Disney offers a plethora of special events just for Cast Members to experience behind the scenes magic. From taking a backstage tour of the Haunted Mansion after hours to seeing premiere performances of new shows and parades, being a part of the magic never gets old.
6. You Can Play in the Parks for Free
Yes. You read that right. When you’re a Disney Cast Member you get into the parks whenever you want at no cost. In the college program, it’s common place to go to the parks and play with friends and co-workers after work and on off days. You get to experience a different kind of Disney, and it’s special to say the least.
7. You Can Get Free Passes for Your Friends & Family
As a Cast Member, you’ll also get a select number of passes for your favorite lucky guests to use as park admission. There are some block-out dates during peak periods, but for the most part, it’s an amazing benefit. So when you’re feeling homesick, get your family down there for some Disney time you’ll remember forever.
8. You’ll Have Plenty of Opportunities to Seduce a Disney Prince
Aladdin. Flynn Rider. Prince Phillip. Prince Charming. Kristoff. They’re all there, and you have a free pass into the parks and all the time in the world. Hold on to your magic carpet, Al, because we’re coming for you. Need we say more?
9. You’ll Knock Your Future Interviewer’s Socks Off
If you take anything away from the Disney College Program, it will be endless examples for interview questions in your future job search. Disney’s high standards and focus on guest service require a lot of hard work, but the freedom they allow their Cast Members to make guests’ experiences memorable will leave you with incredible stories of going above and beyond in the workplace. Working for Disney alone, will set you apart in the job search, and your experiences on the job will make you an even stronger applicant.
10. You’re Working for Mickey Mouse
Mickey Mouse is an awesome boss, and he gives great hugs. What more can you ask for? It was after all, “all started with a mouse.”
